For those studying in a classroom environment you will be expected to devote approximately 6-8 hours of home study per week in addition to your classroom hours. A textbook will be provided and pre-reading is essential before attending classes.

Like choosing any area of study the choice is a personal one for you to make. Aged Care is a rapidly expanding industry where demand for workers will increase as the Australian population increases. The knowledge and skills required by a Leisure and Health (Lifestyle) worker are increasingly being respected by the population as a whole.

One day per fortnight over an 11 month period with a mixture of virtual and face to face classes held at the IRT Academy in Wollongong.

Yes, 120 hours of work placement is required in an aged care centre. IRT Academy will assist in organising work placement but can’t guarantee work placement in areas where IRT does not have an aged care centre.

You will be assessed in a number of ways. These methods may include:

  • Virtual and face-to-face classroom sessions
  • Group discussions
  • Practical activities and projects
  • Short answers / multiple choice / matching questions
  • Practical observations in classroom
  • Other self-directed activities
