Why study aged care

Find out how studying aged care opens the door to a host of amazing benefits and a rewarding career.

If you’re after a rewarding job that has a positive impact on people’s lives, look no further than aged care. You’ll have the opportunity to directly enhance the lives of older Australians by making life easier for them and their families and developing meaningful relationships along the way. Whether it’s empowering clients to continue living at home independently with home care or uplifting residents with lifestyle activities at an aged care centre, your work will truly make a difference that changes people’s lives.

One of the great things about choosing to work in aged care is the amount of flexibility and choice available. Aged care workers can work almost anywhere and you can advise your availability, allowing you to have more control over your work/life balance.

Whether you’re a support worker in an aged care centre or helping someone live independently in their home and community, caring for older people is important work. It’s really heart-warming to be a regular part of someone’s life and make a positive difference to their day. Given the highly personal nature of aged care work, you often have the opportunity to make strong and meaningful connections with the people in your care as well as their close family and friends. It’s a highly rewarding career!

The aged care sector in Australia is a huge $20 billion+ industry that provides jobs for more than 220,000 people across the country. Over the next decade Australia will continue to experience high demand for aged care workers due to our ageing population and increased life expectancy, and the industry’s upward growth trend and demand for care workers is expected to rise. By studying aged care, you’ll have access to an industry with substantial growth, vast career opportunities and guaranteed job security. It’s a highly viable career choice.
