Cubby house built by Moruya aged care residents goes to domestic violence and homelessness service

Aged care residents at IRT Moruya have at last found a home for the cubby house they built and decorated earlier this year with materials donated by Bunnings Batemans Bay.

A pay it forward initiative, the residents built and decorated the cubby with materials donated by Bunnings Batemans Bay and chose to generously donate the finished product to SEWACS Eurobodalla Domestic and Family Violence Service.

SEWACS provides services and support to local families and people who are experiencing, or are at risk of, homelessness or domestic violence.

Zoe of SEWACS is looking forward to the cubby house arriving and was very touched when IRT Moruya reached out with the offer.

“I think it’s a really lovely thing to know that IRT residents have made the cubby and that it’s going to benefit some very deserving children,” Zoe said.

“I hope it will bring the residents joy to know that, as it will certainly bring the children joy.”

Building and painting the cubby house has been a labour of love for the residents of IRT Moruya for many months and they are pleased for it to be going to such a worthy cause.

IRT Moruya resident Rowan Field helped build the cubby and says it has been good for everyone to get outside and enjoy themselves.

“It wasn’t hard to put together and I reckon kids will love it. It’s a good thing and has been a real team effort,” Rowan said.

IRT Moruya residents Melva Hagen, Myra Pringle and Elaine Johns painted a decorative woodland scene which wraps around the cubby house. They say the cubby house will be somewhere great for kids to play and express their imaginations.

IRT Moruya Lifestyle Team Leader Lynda White says that everyone is very pleased to know the cubby is going to a good home.

“It has been a hot topic of conversation for quite some time and it’s given everyone a real boost in spirits.

“We’re all thrilled that it’s going to SEWACS and will be something nice for children to play with who have been through tough times.”
