Our home care employees provide personal, physical and emotional support and care to our residents who require assistance with daily living in their own homes. Home care employees assist our residents with their daily care needs and domestic duties in accordance with their care plan. Key responsibilities may include assistance and support with domestic duties such as cooking and cleaning, accompanying clients to appointments or on outings and providing companionship.

Types of positions available

We’re always looking for home care employees to work directly with seniors in their homes, assisting with daily care needs and offering support so that they may continue to live independently.

Tasks include domestic duties such as cooking, help with personal hygiene and transport to medical appointments and social activities. We’re also looking for people to offer companionship and emotional support to foster a strong sense of wellbeing and an improved quality of life.

What are home care workers’ responsibilities?

Home care workers provide in-home support to help older people live independently. They visit clients in their own homes and assist with daily activities such as home duties and accompanying them to appointments. Home care workers are responsible for supporting the wellbeing, lifestyle and independence of their clients. They may also provide social and emotional support to improve a person’s quality of life. Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Providing personal care including showering, dressing, grooming 
  • Providing domestic assistance such as preparing and cooking meals and household cleaning
  • Medication assistance
  • Help with maintaining hobbies and interests
  • Providing emotional support and companionship through conversation, games, and other forms of social interaction
  • Assisting with mobility in and around the home

How do I become a home care worker?

To become a home carer, you’ll need a current driver’s licence and reliable vehicle with comprehensive insurance. A Certificate III in Individual Support is also preferred, however, we highly encourage you to apply if you’re currently in the process of completing the course, and we can support you as you work towards obtaining the certification as well. In fact, you can obtain your Certificate III in Individual Support by studying at ITeC Academy, our registered training organisation. Find out more about our aged care courses and ITeC Academy here.

In addition to these requirements, we’re looking for people who have:

  • A caring and supportive nature
  • A genuine interest in caring for older Australians
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • The ability to relate empathetically to people from diverse backgrounds and cultures 
  • The ability to use technology such as smart phones and computers 
  • The availability and flexibility to work a variety of shifts including weekends.
